Curriculum objective: Identify and distinguish between the sounds of short  i
short a .
Resources:  1.  Astro World 1.1 Installed on hardrive of a Multimedia Computer
           2.  Modern Curriculum Plus Phonics or Equivalent Text

Activities:
 1.  Review the short vowel sounds for a and i  through the use of the    Activitiy Training Center of the Astro World software program.
 2. Write the following sentences on the board: Pam puts jam  on  her    ham.  Jim sits  and sips his milk.
 3.  Ask a volunteer to read the first sentence.  Tell the children that the    sentence has three short  a  words. Review the short a sound and have a   volunteer come up and circle the the short a words.
 4. Repeat the same procedure with the short i  sentence.
 5. Explain and assign pages 21 and 22 in their phonics workbook.
 6. Record studentsí progress from the assessment component on the    computer software program and the independent  phonics workbook pages.
 

Assessment:
 1. Have the students go back to the computer in pairs and play the Word    Sort  game on the  Astro World software program.
Enrichment:
 1.  Have students play the other four short  vowel games focusing on the short  a  and i  vowel  sounds.
