This Web page is a product of
a three-year, schoolwide project entitled VI Connections. All students
in the Muller Elementary School study Virgin Islands History as part of
the Social Studies Curriculum. Because there is very little electronic
information on the Virgin Islands that is appropriate to an elementary
school student, we wish to make our work available, via the Web, to other
elementary students. Most of the work presented in this project
was completed by 4th, 5th, and 6th grade students although one 3rd grade
class did participate in the Holidays component.
The project was originally written as a Literacy Challenge
Grant Proposal by the Muller School Technology Committee in 1999.
Since its initial funding, we have been awarded a second and a third Challenge
Grant to further expand the scope of the original proposal.
We have many people and organizations to
thank for their assistance, including:
*Felipe Ayala, Jr., historian, for the tour
of Historic Charlotte Amalie.
*RWIC .com for housing our web site.
*MSI Building Supplies for the monetary
donation and for being such a supportive "adopter".
*Seaborne Seaplanes for discounting the
airfare to St. Croix.
*George Tyson, historian, for the tour of
St. Croix and for the Historic Sites Workshop.
*Myron Jackson of the State Preservation
Office, for the guided tour of St. Thomas
*David Knight, historian, for the guided
tour of S. John
*The St. John Historic Society for their
hospitality
*Virgin Islands Humanities Council for money
to fund our photography field trip to St. Croix
*Paul Winslow, architect, for the Museum
Design Workshop.
*Faculty and Administration of the Ulla
F. Muller Elementary School for participation and support
Thanks to all of the above and all others who assisted
with the project.
